School District No. 1 in Howard County covers 104 square miles and has an actual valuation of $208,270,480.  This Class 3 Type K-12 district is accredited by the state of Nebraska and the North Central Association.

The 2005-2006 school operating expenses totaled $5,282,431, with an average cost per pupil of $7,600.  The actual valuation per pupil was $326,000.

The maximum capacity of the public elementary schools is 400.  The junior-senior high school was built in 1923, with additions in 1950, 1976, 1980 and 1990 and has a maximum capacity of 500.  An addition to the school was built in 1998 to serve as the school/community library.  Our school community library has a multimedia room with Internet access as well as a bank of 10 computers for the public use.  It is estimated that 98% percent of the eighth grade students finish high school.

Students may gain college credit in English and Mathematics through our “state of the art”, one static IP based distance-learning classroom.  This room allows real time two-way interactive video/audio distance learning with up to three sites simultaneously.  We also have the capabilities of a mobile one-to-one two-way interactive video/audio connection using a polycom.

Adult educational programs are available in the high school in cooperation with the Central Community College.

Saint Paul has a complete special education program for K-12.

The St Paul Public School district uses a 100 Meg backbone for their computer network needs.    We have two servers running in the building.  The last two years (2004-2005) we have added 3 mobile carts to the system, one cart holds 24 wireless laptops and the other two carts hold 12 wireless laptops with the capability of growing to 18 laptops per cart.  Each teacher has a desktop computer capable of connecting to the Internet.  We have computers in the language classrooms dedicated to doing accelerated reader.  We have a total of 192 computers in the district.  We have mostly windows based machines but have a few Macintoshes.

We have 1 static computer lab in the elementary with 25 computers and two high school computer classrooms with 25 computers each.  The computers in the district are filtered thru Educational Service Unit #10 in Kearney to protect the students from inappropriate materials.

Vocational courses offered in the high school include business, carpentry, mechanics, home economics, and agriculture.  Our industrial arts program teaches AutoCAD and has a computer controlled laser.
